How To Boost Your Ego For Success And Happiness

1. Never Compare Yourself to anyone

The simplest way to boost your ego is not to let it get ruined by your perception of others.

We all have someone in our lives that makes us feel inferior. But they are not necessarily perfect people, so why do we feel like that?

We compare ourselves to them. We put ourselves against them in a race that has no loser but us in the end.

You wouldn’t know how harmful and damaging comparison is until you stop doing it. Once you realize that everyone has their flaws and weaknesses, you will feel the freedom that lets you be yourself without bringing yourself down in front of others.

Try to be happy with others’ accomplishments without overthinking those of your own. Why does it matter if what they have got seems so much more defined than yours? You are not in a competition with anyone.

2. Surround Yourself with Positive People

Imagine having friends who like to constantly point out your mistakes, flaws, and weaknesses. No one can put up with that for a long time without going crazy.

While it is true that friends are supposed to be mirrors that reflect the real you without hiding your faults, this has some limits.

What real friends are supposed to do is tell you when you are at fault and stop you from making obvious mistakes. Deliberately bringing you down and aiming for your self-esteem, on the other hand, is always unacceptable.

So many people have this problem with their friends, complaining that they are always commenting on how they dress, how they do their hair, how they walk, or anything else they do.

It’s not good for your ego to surround yourself with people like this. You need people to like you and admire you for who you are, with zero intent of sabotaging your confidence.

When positivity is around, it easily enters inside of you. Friends leave a huge impact on your mood, and your mood leaves a huger impact on your performance.

In a way, positive people let you function positively in peace, and negative people inject all their negativity into your life and work.

Choose your friends and the people around you wisely because, in the long run, they influence a great part of life.

3. Give Up Bad Habits

We know that some things that we do, do not necessarily make our lives easier, but we do them anyway.

Force of habit can be the most dangerous thing for people who want to make it big because it limits them.

A bad habit is like a cage you have voluntarily made to imprison yourself in; unless you break open from them, you will not be able to use your wings and fly high.

Now, letting go of bad habits is obviously not very easy, or else everyone would do it in a heartbeat. But there is a reason why some people make it big, and some do not.

Having the strength to throw away bad habits and replace them with good ones is that reason.

You need good habits to become successful. And to develop good habits, you need to get rid of bad habits.

Here are a few examples of bad habits that become obstacles on your way to success:

  • Seeking perfection in everything you do
  • Not owning up to your mistakes
  • Overthinking every single thing
  • Procrastinating

Break your cage and set yourself free. You will find that your cage was just robbing you of the beauty of the sky.

Letting go of your bad habits, which are famous for being hard to let go of, gives you a sense of power and helps you assert dominance over your lifestyle.

4. Conquer Your Fears

a woman is swimming in the ocean and conquering her fears

Every one of us has something we fear doing, and this is natural.

What is not natural is us running away from opportunities to grow because they somehow involve what we are uncomfortable with or fear.

Fear normally comes from the sense of unfamiliarity and lack of understanding.

But if we run from everything that is unfamiliar and arouses fear in us, how can we experience new things?

And if we deliberately keep ourselves from experiencing new things, how can we grow and change for the better?

Fear is powerful. But normally, we are more powerful than it.

If we decide to overcome our fears, we can definitely eliminate them because human beings’ willpower, by nature, is bigger than any emotion. That is why we humans are famous for our adapting abilities to different conditions.

But if we give up on controlling our fears, they are going to take over us and destroy any chance of trying something new that can make us improve ourselves.

It is just like that scene in the third Harry Potter film in which the students have to face the non-beings (boggarts) that took on the form of the worst fears of each one of them.

All students had to do was imagine their worst fears in a comical situation that would turn them into a laughing stock instead of something so horrid.

In other words, students had to take over their fears and change them as they liked.

If we can do that with our fears, our boggarts in real life, nothing can stand in our way to success and happiness.

Imagine that moment that you have conquered your worst fear and feel at peace with whatever fills you with fright.

Naturally, you will feel confident about facing your fears because not everyone can do it, yet you managed to succeed.

5. Be Pleased With How You Look

A mature, confident and beautiful woman

I know we say outer beauty is not as important as the beauty inside, and it is true.

But what I am talking about here is something different. What this statement means is that caring about your appearance can help you boost your ego in a healthy way.

Take a test if you want to know how much this is true. If you are the kind of person that does not care about their daily looks, take one day to carefully dress and spend time on your appearance until you are satisfied.

Throughout the day, you will see that you are more confident than normal. Because you know you look good, and being content with your appearance will insert some sort of power inside you.

Whether you look beautiful to others or not is not important. What really matters is that you feel content and confident about yourself.

Being confident in your looks gives you the ability to act confident and grow up, with the bonus of impressing the people around you.

6. Achieve a small goal

When we talk about goals, the image that comes to our mind is normally our final destination in which we want to see ourselves in life, the ultimate goal.

But surely, before reaching that goal, there are other things we have to do to make it happen.

Think of it this way: you are at the bottom of the ladder, and to have a successful, happy life, you need to climb that ladder.

How many steps do you think you can skip and not care about to reach the final step?

If you skip too many small steps, which are your sub-goals in this context, you are going to get hurt.

So try to take it slowly and play safe. The safest way to climb up a ladder is to take one step at a time.

But the importance of setting small goals for yourself does not end here.

When you set a small goal you know you are capable of reaching, you will feel confident.

Now, if you plan your way to your ultimate goal by setting small, seemingly unimportant goals, by the time you get to the end spot, you have the confidence to make your dreams happen.

Your dream might have sounded impossible in the first place. But because you have built up enough self-esteem over the course of your plan, it does not sound so far-fetched when you are close to it.

That is how powerful smaller goals can make you.

 7. Getting rid of negative thoughts

Thoughts are more powerful than we give them credit. They slowly creep up to our minds and leave their trace on our subconscious.

To boost your ego, you have to eliminate all negative thoughts that come to your mind.

If you constantly think to yourself that what you want to do is too hard, that you are not going to make it, or you are not good enough, your confidence will be destroyed little by little to the point where everything seems meaningless and impossible.

The main point of feeling confident about yourself is to let go of all the negative thoughts and emotions you have towards yourself.

Stop degrading yourself because your mind tells you so. You need to let positivity and good thoughts about yourself fill your mind and heart because you deserve to love yourself just like everyone else.

Negativity is the enemy that does not allow you to love yourself in peace.

Fight and defeat it, and show everyone, including yourself, your true worth.

Replace negative thoughts and notions with happy, positive thoughts and see how much better you will do.

The positivity inside your mind will attract the positivity that is around you, so you have a very big chance of succeeding in whatever you intend to do.

Negative thoughts, on the other hand, will only trap you and wear you out. So instead of giving way to them, figure out a way to eliminate them and fill your mind with positive thoughts.

Boost your ego for success

Some people, even experts, fixate on trying to destroy your ego.

Your ego is your sense of self-worth or importance. Why should you destroy something so helpful?

You are not supposed to destroy your ego. What you are supposed to do is to keep it under control so that it will not take control of your life someday.

You are never prevented from boosting your self-confidence. However, you are prevented from turning into a selfish and self-centered person.

The fact that these traits are defined by words like “Egoist” or “Egotist” has led many people to believe that ego, in its essence, is a bad thing.

Remember, your ego can do no one any harm unless you let it overcome your logic and try to boost it more than reason.
